Below is a history of rail to trail, in Rockland, provided by Donald Cann, resident and Chairman of the Open Space Committee. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Rail Trail Report a/o BOS Meeting 10/18/2010</h2>
<p>Ms. O’Brien presented a project to clean the rail line from Abington to Hanover and create a walking trail. <a href="http://ironhorsepreservation.org" target="_blank">Iron Horse Preservation Society</a> will remove all the rails, spikes, metal and the railroad ties. They will work with the town to clean the entire stretch to create a clean clear walking/ bike riding trail.</p>
<p>There is no cost to the Town of Rockland beyond paving road crossing and arranging egress and access points.</p>
<p>Mr. Chiocca was authorized to proceed with a contract (see below) with Iron Horse Preservation Society. The work by Iron Horse Preservation is expected to be completed by the end of November or early December 2010.</p>

<p>Update: BOS Meeting 10/18/2010 by Mr. Chiocca &#8211; Rail Trail is progressing the clearing is now beyond Dunkin’ Donuts and working towards the Police Department. Open space Committee will be hosting a meeting soon.</p>
