The following positions are up for appointment/reappointment by the Board of Selectmen.  Persons interested in applying must submit an application to the Selectman’s Office no later than Friday, April 20, 2012.  Appointment forms are available at the Selectmen’s Office or online @ rockland-ma.gov

 

IMPORTANT:  Any incumbent whose term expires MUST resubmit an application.  Reappointment is not automatic and all applications will be considered equally.

 

ADDITIONAL NOTE:  Only contested appointments for offices or new applicants are invited for an interview.

 

Aging, Council on – (3 Year Appointment) (11 members – 3 alternates)

The Council on Aging is responsible for ensuring that programs for senior citizens are carried forth within budgetary authority and limits.

The Cultural Council is responsible for approving state granted funds to ensure that the arts and humanities are provided to the residents of the Town.

Director of Emergency Management (Annual Appointment)

Coordinates and assists in the event of a major emergency within the Town.  Activates the Emergency Operations Center and maintains contact with state and federal agencies.

Dog Hearing Officer (Annual Appointment)

This position acts for the Selectmen and is charged with dispute resolution involving persons who have filed formal complaints against vicious and nuisance dogs.

Education Fund Committee (3 year term) – Consisting of the Superintendent of Schools or designee & no fewer than four residents of the Town appointed by the BOS.  Shall select recipients of and amounts of financial aid from the scholarship fund and education fund and shall be guided by any criteria established by the scholarship committee or education fund committee subject to any ordinance or by-law & further subject to MGL Chapter 60 Section C.

The Tree Warden is responsible for ensuring that laws of the Commonwealth regarding the placement, pruning and removal of public shade trees are followed.  The position requires the supervision of one full-time employee.

The Sealer enforces all relevant laws relating to the sale and purchase of all fuels, including gasoline, diesel, oil and propane.

The inspectors of Wires are responsible for ensuring that the electrical code is adhered to in any repair, alteration or new construction to any building or structure within the Town of Rockland.

The Youth Commission is responsible for ensuring that the various programs for the youth of the town are delivered within budgetary limits and authority.
