When should you receive the Real Estate tax bill?
The first bill of the fiscal year is mailed on or before
6/30. This mailing will include the bills due 8/1 and
11/1. This is a preliminary tax bill and is based on the previous year’s rate and value of your home.
No
abatement or exemption can be done at this time.
The second mailing of the real estate tax bill is on or before
12/30. This is the first actual tax bill for the fiscal year. You may file for an abatement or exemption
at this time. This mailing will include the bills due 2/1 and
5/1.
The bills are mailed twice a year but are
still due quarterly. You
must hold onto the second portion of the tax bill as you will not receive
another.

Is there a difference between the town’s online bill pay and your banks bill pay?
-
The funds are not electronically transferred to the town’s bank account but are transferred out of your bank account to a holding account held by the bank.
-
Your bank then creates a paper check and sends it to the town often taking up to ten days to reach the town.
-
Your payment is applied to your account when received by the Tax Collector’s office.
-
A paper check containing incorrect information will not be applied and sent back for the correct information.
