The Rockland Memorial Library is a dynamic community resource that fosters a love of reading and endeavors to improve the quality of life for Rockland residents by providing: 
  • Materials on current topics to fulfill residents' needs for information about pop culture and social trends and their desire for satisfying recreational experiences. 

  • General information to help meet the need for information and answers to questions on a broad array of topics related to work, school and personal life. 

  • Information literacy to help address the need for skills relating to finding, evaluation and using information effectively. 

  • Meeting room facilities to help address the need of people to meet and interact with others in their community and to participate in a variety of cultural, informational and educational programming. 

  • Local history and genealogy materials to address the desire of the community residents to know and better understand personal or community heritage. 

  • Adequate facilities to support library activities in an efficient, safe and attractive manner.

The Rockland Memorial Library will help Rockland residents of all ages improve their quality of life in three key ways:
  • First, All residents will have access to recreational and educational information to support them personally, academically, and professionally.

  • Secondly, residents will have the opportunity to participate in cultural and historical programming and resources to enrich their lives.

  • Third, residents will have the continuing activities that will build spirit and help Rockland retain it's small town character.

The Rockland Memorial Library is a "Carnegie", constructed between 1903 and 1905.  The library is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Donations to benefit the Rockland Memorial Library may be made to the RML Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.  All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
Library Services

  • Direct loan of library materials, including books, magazines, music cassettes and CDs, videocassettes, DVDs, large print materials for the visually impaired, and materials for children, adults and young adults.  

  • The library may also arrange the loan of other library's materials through the Interlibrary Loan system.  

  • Also available for public use are internet workstations, daily newspapers, discounted museum passes, and other related materials.  

  • The library provides story times for children, monthly book discussion group and other cultural and informational programming.  

  • The meeting room is available for use by community groups (pre-registration required).  

  • The library web site currently has a link for rafter hours answers to reference questions that uses live, online chat with a professional librarian in other parts of the country.
